ABOUT ME

I attribute my gravitation to geography and GIS as an undergraduate student to my love of maps. As a kid I always served as the in-car navigator with foldable paper maps. Reading, studying, and just enjoying maps came very naturally to me. To this day I still get lost in maps both in print and digital formats. I particularly enjoy artistic representations of geographic space and unique map mediums.

I was certain I would become an academic geographer after being given the chance to teach as a Masters student. It took me by surprise how much I enjoyed it. Of course, the research was equally as exciting to me. Focusing on human migration as a Masters student, I elected to shift gears to geospatial techniques for my doctoral research where my interest in remote sensing, specifically unmanned aerial vehicles and lidar, really ignited.

As evidenced by my publications and the research interests list, I still have broad interests within geography, but remain focused on the theory and applications of geographic information science.
